Common Uses for Day Care Funding
Staff is most of the budget. In one NAEYC example, wages and benefits were 62-66% of a center's expenses, and for many programs it runs as high as 90%. Staff-to-child ratios mean you can't cut hours when payments run late. And they do: in 2024 and 2025, providers in Missouri and Maine waited months for state subsidy payments, and one Missouri center was owed about $80,000. (NAEYC; Springfield Daily Citizen; Central Maine)
Cover payroll while subsidy and tuition payments come in.
Add a classroom or infant room.
Upgrade the playground, kitchen and safety features.
Hire and train staff to meet ratios.
Move to a bigger building.
Handle cash gaps from late subsidy payments.
Minimum Requirements.
To boost your chances of getting approved, make sure you meet these basic criteria to prequalify for day care funding with Zippi.
$20,000+ in Monthly Sales.
Your center must bring in at least $20,000 in gross sales every month. State child care subsidy payments count toward it.
Business Owner.
You’re the owner or the person authorized to make financial decisions for the business — including applying for funding on its behalf.
Over 12 Months in Business.
Your center needs to have been open at least 12 months.
